The kids and Adam planted the garden (very small garden I should say) this past week. We really hope it wasn't too late, but oh well, we'll see what happens. We actually had to plant it in our front yard, behind the hawthorne bushes because that is the only place where we get full sun for more than 4 hours. But since the property is up on a hill, no one can see the garden from the front of the house, so hopefully our neighbors won't care that we have a veggie garden in our front yard! haa! We planted tomatos, carrots, green beans, bell peppers, and watermelon! Last year we tried watermelons and got these teeny tiny golfball size watermelons and the kids found that hilarious so they wanted to try those again.
We also planted some herbs in containers and have them on the back deck where we also get full sun. We have mint and basil in containers in the front on the steps as well as flowers but the basil is not doing well, I am not sure why. If anyone can help LMK in the comments or email me. The garden is more for the kids and a learning activity than to really be a full fledged veggie garden where we can eat from. We need to remove some of the trees in the backyard in order to have a real, full fledged garden to eat from, maybe someday.
Here are some pictures, the kids had a blast Ayla is our little gardener, she loves it, and was begging us all week to plant the garden. Adam removed the rose bushes that used to be here and replanted them in the back yard.
