Playing Catch-up

Seems like I am always playing catch up here on the blog! I want to keep a record of all of the fun things we do and chronicle our life as a family, but I guess we are busy living the life!

A few fun things to mention quickly before I get back to the kids science project. Mr. Av decided at 6pm tonight that he wanted the training wheels off of his bike and wanted to try to ride without them. So I got a wrench unscrewed the wheels and off we went to the sidewalk. I knew from watching him earlier on the bike that it wouldn't take him long as I was right. I think he got it on his 2nd try after only about 3 or 4 minutes!! Once I got him going he worked SO hard on trying to go himself and he finally got it. I ran inside to get the camera and Adam took over helping him.

We are SOOO super proud of you sweet boy! You work so hard at everything you want to do and you accomplish these tasks and goals every. single. time. The big smile on your face is priceless:

Watch of video of my boy ride!

Last month we took a trip to the coast for a nature tour of Capers Island, SC. We rode on a boat out to the Island where we spent about an hour and 45 minutes looking at the sea life in the water, the beautiful whelk shells, some starfish and the worn down oak trees that have succumb to the ocean and the wind. Before we got to Capers Island, we went to Ambrose Farms to pick fresh South Carolina strawberries. I have very few memories of things I did as a young child but one of them is picking strawberries in Pennsylvania with my mom when I was about 4 or 5. I always remembered that moment spent with my mom and knew that I would continue the tradition and take my kids too. The first time we picked strawberries was when I was pregnant with Mr. Av and Aybelle was almost 3, so that was in 2004! So we've been doing this for 6 years!

Capers Island Photos (more to come!)

Mothers Day was last week and we had a nice weekend. The kids made me gluten-free brownies for breakfast and a couple of store-purchased and homemade cards. It was delightful! I also got a beautiful card from my mother and father. Thanks Mom and Dad! In honor of Mother's Day I scanned a photo of me and my mom from around 1976, I was about 4 years old. We are in pennsylvania at a relative's house enjoying the snow, wearing my Winnie the Pooh red and yellow rubber boots.

Last but not least, we MOVED! Yes... for some of you paying attention, that would be again. Long story but we decided living downtown would be better for us, and so we coincidentially found a really gorgeous old 1932 house that was being renovated. We moved in April 1 but it took another MONTH to get out of the old house in Lexington, because over the last 10 years we had accumulated SO.MUCH.STUFF. We sent about 5 loads to the goodwill, 4 huge loads to the dump and we gave away clothing, sheets, blankets, toys to our friends. We even donated old towels to a local grocery store because they are a collection spot for items to go to the Gulf coast to help with the clean up of the oil spill disaster that happened a couple of weeks ago off of the coast of Louisana.

The house is SO adorable and wonderful. Its fabulous living in a house with a history and with character. We are only the third family ever to live in this house since 1932! The last person was a lady named Miss Sarah who left about 18 months ago at the ripe old age of 98 years old! She moved into an assisted living facility. This house has good karma!

Its fabulous living downtown. It takes me and Adam 2 minutes to get to work or home form work. TWO minutes!! We can walk to the grocery stores, especially our favorite, Earthfare, and to a ton of restaurants and boutiques. The stress has gone WAY way done and we are definitely happier and content here. The kids love it.
